Abrams Falls
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
near Happy Valley, TN
We start this hike at Abrams Creek Ranger station in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and take the 2.3-mile Little Bottoms Trail to Abrams Falls Trail. The latter trail runs parallel to Abrams Creek and therefore is mostly flat. In all, the route is about five miles to Abrams Falls, a 20-foot waterfall. Including the return route on the same trail, this is a scenic but easy hike that qualifies for one of the requirements for Hiking Merit Badge.
Directions:
From Oak Ridge, take Pellissippi Parkway and I-140 south. Continue to where Pellissippi ends and turn right on State Road 33 (Broadway) in Alcoa. Continue through Maryville to State Road 336 (Montvale Road). Turn left and follow Montvale Road 8.6 miles out of town. Bear left as the main roadway becomes Happy Valley Road and continue up the winding road over the ridge. After going underneath Foothills Parkway, descend and continue through Happy Valley until you see signs pointing to Abrams Creek Ranger Station and Campground.
