In a backpacking trip, a hiker would likely summit Max Patch after starting somewhere else on the Appalachian Trail. However, it is easily reachable by car. There are multiple ways to get there, but the easiest way from Oak Ridge is to take I-40 to the Harmon's Den exit. Follow the signs to the parking area.
