Piney River Pocket Wilderness contains a 10-mile trail that descends along the Piney River. It's normally hiked by parking a car at the takeout and then shuttling hikers to the trailhead. The trailhead is at 35.701, -84.9552 (35° 42.06'N, 84° 57.312'W), at Newby Branch Forest Camp, off Forest Camp Road. The takeout is at a parking area, picnic area on Shut-in Gap Road. It's located at 35.7136, -84.8803 (35° 42.816'N, 84° 52.818'W).
